My mother always told me that “the most important thing you can give a person is your time.” She never said how difficult this would be; how it meant putting yourself last, sacrificing family events, and the fact that there simply would not be enough of it. Knowing how busy we are, fundraisers like last Saturday’s Nite at the Races can be truly humbling. I fail to find the words to express the encouragement that I gain from such a response. Knowing that you support and make time to benefit something that I am so very passionate about is so very overwhelming…I spend days picturing all of the people; those that I should have embraced, talked more with, or introduced myself to.
When it comes time to say my “thanks” at the end of the night, it is no wonder I am at a total loss for words. The fine print on the back of the race program is so very limiting, so let me try it again. There is not any one person that runs this organization, but a team, simply said. It could not be done without you and I could not begin to thank ALL of those members, but there are a few that I feel in my heart could use further recognition. To my friends who are always there, I guess it is pride that fills my heart, I’m so thankful that I can count on you regardless of the request. To my family that works so very hard so that I can give so very much of my time to others, even when it means I will be late to the game, serve left overs again, and smell like a barn. Someday, I will use notecards, but until that time comes, I hope you all know the feelings of my heart and what words fail to express. You are what make each event a success; thank you!
