It is with a heavy heart that I rally you together. One of our family members has ridden off into the sunset; called home by our Lord and Savior.
I struggle to find words and peace but know that time is really all that can heal. No one looks forward to the next lesson, or upcoming opportunities to bring smiles and laughter more than myself, but I am intentionally making a conscious effort not to dwell on what could have been...and focus on what was. We had the opportunity to get to know and love a spirited little cowgirl that just loved to be on her horse. We as a family, gave her the opportunity to ride. There is so much meaning behind that word "Ride," isn't there? It is overwhelming to comprehend what that really brings to each rider. There was no questioning how much she enjoyed it; not only could it be seen, and heard, but felt. She like many riders, is the reason we come together every week and will continue to do what we do.
Saying goodbye is never an easy thought or action to make. It was suggested to me that we come together as a family to give our sympathy to the family of Zoe Ruth. It sounds like the majority of our team will be meeting at 6:00 on Sunday at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc. 430 Mendenhall Ave. Knox. However, this is not mandatory, but can be a very personal decision, just know that I will be there at that time, if you need support.
We never know how long our time will be with our riders, but I was not prepared, and in all honesty might never really be. We are sending an arrangement garnished with horseshoes and horse hair on behalf of Heavenly Gaits, but we will do more to honor the memory of Zoe, we just haven't decided what. It has been requested by the family that memorials be given to Heavenly Gaits in the name of Zoe Louise Ruth. We are considering placing these into a rider scholarship in her honor, or commemorating a stall for her. You are welcome to make a contribution however you like. Until we have reached a decision, all contributions will be listed on our website. It is on my heart to talk to the family about the best way to keep her memory alive, when the time is right, and then we will move forward.
I am so very proud and fortunate to be part of this family. Thank you all for making this organization possible. I would not have had these experiences without you. You, make my life better. There is something to the effect of entertaining angels, and I often recognize that I am surrounded by them!
In love,
Monique Nellis
