I don't share enough about the gifts God gives to us at Heavenly Gaits...yesterday we had a lesson for one rider and after showing up late and smelly to a baseball game, I told my husband I would do it again. Feeling frustrated for not being able to challenge his skills and again providing him with another ride along the trail, I realized this was just what he needed. Along that trail we were able to provide his mother a moment to share in her sons' love of horses, put a volunteer who had once fallen off safely back in the saddle, and another the chance to ride on our easy going horse bareback. Yes, all for that one rider.
It was while reflecting on this lesson that I heard the words of another young man on his first day in the saddle saying something to the effect of this is the best day of my life, that I realized it was one of mine too; they all are. I want so much for these riders and Heavenly Gaits yet, we have so very little; God's grace is enough. On that very special "best" day I remember watching a rider from behind as his body melted under the movements of his horse, seeing his smile from ear to ear and thanking God for this moment, for this horse, this child. A smile conveyed the feelings or his heart; words that he himself could not express. I can't recall seeing such a smile last so long on his face before. Thank you, God, for humility, for knowing the desires of our heart, and for what is yet to come
